Default relay #297 What is it for ?

Firstly sorry for two posts in a row, and I have been trolling the search pages, and using google as much as sanity requires.

Problem is my #297 relay under the dash is clicking while ignition hot only, Its clicking like a excited cricket in a jar, and I cannot tell if its off when running yet as will post with update.
What I mean is when I turn the key to right just before the starter motor is engaged, red lights on etc. on dash.

Vehicle Audi 1994 Cabriolet 2.6 V6 similar electronics make to the 2.8 V6.

It was doing this before I did the previous threads test and fix.

Some results showed it can be for a newer Audi's coolant fans, while others said it was for auto transmission shifting?

Pretty sure it is the park-neutral transmission relay on page three. Looks like it is tied into the central locking system, Transmission ECU, engine ECU and exterior lights.

The relay is available on the BAY very cheap.

Default what would cause this? same after replaced relay

I have replaced the 297 shift lock relay and the replacement does the same when ignition hot.

Tracing back I have removed a plug in the passenger door to a bellows that operated something, this plug removed the parasitic drain has stopped from my car. As in another thread.

I could try reconnect for a short time to test. But door skins are not easy to remove.

Thanks Rusty for the tie in with the central locking, as for the trans ecu and engine ecu seem un-altered as operational no codes.

The exterior lights have a small glitch in so far as the passenger park lights are slightly on when running motor. I thought there was a short but have not been able to find it. from back seat to rear light assembly.

Also I have not so recently replaced the ignition module, I do not know if this is relevant but the ignition plug wiring had one wire cut off. P.O.??
I think it was the 86 pin out from ignition switch which ties in with alarm central locking and dash to mini check system module on a 1996 anyway mines a 1994.

Where to next? Apart from a complete rewire.
