Engine shot:(
Yes, I just bought this car and I had mechanic check head gaskets and their is a lot more going on down there. I hate to part with this car because it is so clean and everything about it is immaculate. I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with swaps and what engines are compatible if I decide to shy away from the 12V 2.8L, I had heard the 2.7L bi turbo was compatible, is it? And how much do you think a 2.7 would cost. I feel really at a loss and any help or thoughts are appreciated I am willing to put more money into this car because it is an amazing body and interior. Again any help at all appreciated, thanks.

The 2.8 12v engine is a very good engine. Sounds like you got taken by the seller with stop leak or motor medic additives added to help sell the car. Let us know where you are and what model Audi you have. Don't despair..a good working car that need an engine is not a big deal. A good 2.8 12v engine can be had..

If.
16mm,
If you do in fact require a replacement engine, it may be simpler to exchange like for like. If one is not really experienced, even an identical used motor or rebuild of yours will be challenging enough. That 12v's are excellent and as found (with some variations) in a variety of models, plentiful, one may be the shortest detour to getting back on the road. Wrecking yards may be able to help you locate one. See the engine ID info at 12v.org. This may help you get an identical twin where everything (including exhaust manifolds, etc.) will match up.

Thank you for the advice Lago, I think you are right, I think I am going to stick with the 12V V6, I found an AAH out of a 93 90 Quattro, for a good price with compression test 150x6 PSI, now I need to find out how much the labor check is going to be.
