Low coolant. How bad is that?
I am considering buying a 1994 90 s. Owner says the car still runs but not for long (probably overheating?). Apparently he drove with low coolant. Does this sound like a worthy buy? How badly is the engine damaged from this and how big a job will I face to find the cause of the low coolant? Thanks in advance.

depends how much you are paying for it and what is the condition of the car?
probably blown head gasket/s 12v Pages - Maintenance

The car is fair. Owner didn't actually say it overheat, I'm just wondering what he means by 'still runs but not for long'. He definitely said he ran with low coolant. He didn't confirm broken timing belt or anything else that I asked. Maybe someone here has a great question I should be asking. Anyway, wouldn't want to pay even $500 if I have to go buy a new engine. The labor alone would kill me.

if you are not interested in doing the labor yourself, don't get it! it will cost you an arm and a leg
but if you are willing... it might be worth a shot. and if it wont run for long, that means problems.
you need to do a compression test to find out whats going on
