Default turbo charged motor? 12v AFC anyone?

Has anyone replaced the heads on the 12v AFC motor with a head with more values?is that an option with the motor? or turbo charged it? I'm just interested, i really love the car and if i could turbo the stock motor without much investment i would love to.

you can't install a 30v head on a 12v block! turbocharging has been done. in a year or two, ill be working on building a supercharged version of this motor

Thanks for the information, both of you. the link was an very nice reference. The stock internals aren't rated for much boost i assume? I didn't want to do a rebuild since its my only car but if i can find a junkyard motor and put it in my basement to build while i have the stock one in my car i might be able to manage. Too bad i can't just change the heads i would have enjoyed that. I do need a new clutch eventually on my car in the next 6 months to year or so, i may try to plan this out when that happens if i decided to yank the motor out when its time.

you have to consider that our motors are kinda high compression ratio motors, you can safely run about 6-8 psi... maybe 10 psi. if you want some good boost, pistons and rods and ARP hardware, are a must! you can pull a motor from a junkyard for about $200.
the clutch thing... well, the duall mass flywheel is majorly overpriced, you can convert to a single mass flywheel from a 7A motor (90-91 audi coupe) and use the clutch from a CQ as well. I'm running a 19.5 lbs single mass flywheel with a stage 2 SPEC clutch on my

I didn't realize 12v.org had all this information, its a wonderful website. A high compression turbo would be a challenge of sorts. I wont be getting the boost i really wanted, 20+ pounds. I may just stick to building a 4G63T (Mitsubishi) and rebuild the 90 to stock with some tasteful mods. But time will tell, the freakin junk yard in New York wants 850$ for a used motor. jeez

for 850 you can order a rebuilt bottom end and i think it will be shipped to your door with that price. heads might set you back another $250-350 each, or much cheaper if you have a friend that can do that sorts of work.
custom pistons will set you back about $1100-1400 depending on the coating and etc, so it all depends how much you wanna spend.

When you get into that kind of money you should start thinking about an AAN or 3B and do a 20vt. Or even a 1.8T swap. WAY more power potential with lots of part support

grillage got a point, building a boosted 12v (or a 12v in general) is not cheap.

do a google search for autohaas paterson. they specialize in audi and vw parts. the don't ever have audi 80/90 stuff, but tons of b5 and up.
