If you're really into converting to a 1.8T, which, in my opinion is a decent motor (my next Audi will have one), the best bet is to start with grabbing a first model complete B5 A4. That's going to be the closest thing to our B4 90 that you can get.

Once you have that, you take them both apart completely and see what you can make work and see what you have to fabricate.

If you really want to go turbo, then the "easier" swap will be to get an earlier B4 with the inline 5 to start with and then get a later 20VT and drop it in place.

Yes. Coupes in US & Canada are B3. However, the RS2 is a B4 and had an I5.

RS2 is I5 B4, just like S2 3B and S2 ABY however its kind of rare on this side of the pond to bring up like an example, i think.
