Default Dipstick

I just watched saabkyle04's review of the S3 and it appears the engine has a dipstick. Is this unique to the S3 or do regular 1.8 and 2.0 A3's have dipsticks as well? I thought that a few years ago Audi eliminated dipsticks on all its models, so I was surprised to see it on this model. I wonder if they came on other S models like the S4, S6. Interesting.

I hear it doesn't even have an oild drain plug to speak of so this would be surprising. Where is this review?

It was BMW that eliminated the dipsticks. That along with several other reasons is why I wouldn't consider the brand

Audi as well. My 2013 A6 and several folks I know with Q5's and I think newer A4's have no dipstick Yo measure the oil (sort of - it stinks) using the MMI. I had assumed this was an across the board move.

The video posted by Spoonie G in thread on the A3 board "Speed Sensitive Radio Volume?" It is at about 12:05 - I saw the yellow handle that looks just like the dipsticks on my previous (2006-2010) Audi's and I assumed that is what it is. It looks too fragile to be the hook for lifting the engine - some companies paint that yellow.

Definitely a Dip Stick. Dipstick is important. I like to check the oil, look at the color, smell it, taste it.

My Q5 and A4 have a little plastic plug on the end of the dipstick tube. The dealer sucks the oil out of the tube. It really takes the owner out of the oil check responsibility.

Me too. I really wish I had one on my A6. Since it is a lease and any long term consequences are Audi's concern, I live with it. I was jealous when I saw the dipstick on the A3.

I still think that you can buy a dipstick. I could be wrong.

You are right, you can. I just didn't get around to ordering it. I use MMI.

There is an issue with a hood sensor that can make the MMI read low. Overfilling of oil did occur over in the Q5 forum.
