Default Good Time For A Which Car Thread

I've currently got a Q5 3.2 Sline and my lease will be up next spring. Really struggling with what to do next. I really would like to lower my price point because I'm creeping up on retirement age. I don't need Q5 size so my latest comparison has been A3 versus a Jetta GLI. Big difference in sticker but the tests of the GLI haven't yielded a lot of love from reviewers. I've also got the Q3 and a Mini S in the mix so I'm all over the place.

How about a GTI or Golf R?

Unless you're looking for an SUV in particular I'd steer away from the Q3. It has old engine and old automatic slush-box transmission (essentially the same setup that's in the current VW tiguan and thats starting to get a bit dated not to mention puts out poor mileage) The GLI vs A3 is a fair comparison, but the current GLI also uses the old engine and comes out of the old platform (not the new MQB), and frankly the build quality and interior quality just falls short IMO. If you don't mind the size the A3 gives you the newer engine (the 1.8t or 2.0t is your call) The interior of the A3 is nice and upscale, it also creeps up on the price a bit, but then again you get what you pay for. Anyways that's just my opinion.

Take an Allroad for a spin...it's got the best of all worlds: performance, hauling, comfort, looks. If my '09 A8L were not so perfect, I'd have an Allroad.

The GLI is a great value, if I didn't want the Quattro so badly, I might have considered it.

Allroad is definitely a great choice!
