I thought that the red calipers were only available on the "Daytona Grey" package?

I remember reading here that the red calipers were only available on the "Daytona Grey" package. Here's a pic with the red calipers on a black car. What dictates the caliper color? I see black calipers and I see red calipers. Thanks!

red calipers are an option in many geographies. Not in the US though outside the Daytona 1 package from what I understand.

Actually I think that car is in the Cayman Islands. Edit: nope, I'm wrong. It's in Canada.

Also, if you are the least bit mechanically inclined, painting the calipers yourself is really easy and costs much less than $500.

Very true and very easy to do. Did it on my 2006 Civic Si for years. BUT, even using proper G2 caliper paint, road grime, rocks, etc take a toll on the paint and you will probably find yourself repainting them every 2 years or so. I did anyway. Painted them when I switched from my winter to summer wheels/tires every year.

How hot do the calipers get anyway? Does the heat from the rotor and pads transfer well to the calipers?

Thanks! Miss the car sometimes. Sold it when I ordered my S3. Big step up from a Civic Si. LOL. The paint does work. I recommend G2 caliper paint. It gives you the paint and a hardener for a better outcome. Have to do all 4 calipers in one go however. Set the car on jack stands, cleaned the calipers very well with brake cleaner then paint. Comes out nice. I always pulled the pads prior to painting to make it easier and look cleaner. Pretty sure the brakes on the S3 are quite sufficient for anything any of us will ever do. Saw some clips of the S3 testing on the Nurburgring. If it can stand up to that, then we're all good.
