Default Boost at 80 mph?

When you are doing 80 mph the engine is revving at around 3100 rpm; are on boost then?
If you are you probably not get good mpg. At 70 mph you are probably off boost.

Speed actually isn't a good indicator of boost.

Its a combination of gas and RPM, if you push the gas peddle 10%, you probably won't instigate the turbo, but if you go 30% on the peddle, you probably would. For instance if you are on a upward grade or hill, the boost will kick in to keep your speed up.

To confirm, if I am doing 80 mph on a level section of the freeway with cruise control then no boost?

Most likely, yes.

Curious about what the boost gauge is reading?

Manifold air pressure most likely, although I think the newer ones measure internal boost pressure.

2900 on the motor now. I'm feeling that same -sigh-

Love the car though. Mileage will likely improve I think.

So today I drove my old 2001 2.8 Q A4, AC on, with a 5 speed and got 25 mpg easily on my commute. Arg.

I know, I know, I'm adding 100 horsepower with the S3, but I would think if I'm not hitting that horsepower range by keeping the RPMs low I'd get 30 mpg easily on the S3.

I really hope more break-in will equal better MPGs. I know the break-in oil is pretty heavy but I have a hard time believing that I will suddenly break 30 mpg on the highway after my first service.

(yeah, I know, I know, I'm obsessing now… can't help it, gas is &$*#@ expensive in CA.)

I've been averaging 27 mpg on my daily commute (1/3 rural, 1/3 highway, 1/3 city - 35 miles each way). I had a 75 mile, all highway trip yesterday and averaged a little over 29 mpg. I didn't use cruise control and was around 70-75 mph the whole way. 1700 miles on the motor.

I am curious what size wheels and tires you are running? Thanks.
