Default 19" -> 18" Winter wheel swap

Well i finally swapped out the OEM 19" wheels for an OEM 18" 10 spoke winter setup. While I miss the aggressive look of the 19's, I'm liking the look of the 18's - classy. And the more refined ride without too much sacrifice in handling is a nice plus :-) (And I have the 19's to look forward to in the spring ;-) )

I'm noticing a slight speedo error - evidently the 225/40/18's are slightly smaller than the 235/35/19's resulting in a 2 mph higher readout - guess I'm gonna eat up lease miles a little quicker this winter ;-).

Anybody know if there is anyway to easily recalibrate the speedo on the S3?

Not bad for 'winter' wheels.

I wouldn't have thought that there would be a circumference difference... interesting.

i'm thinking of 235/40/18 for all season/winter replacements of my 19's they'd be the same width as oem 19's and almost exact same overall diameter as oem 19's (.3% smaller, and .1 - .3 mph speedo variance for most speeds).

Sounds like the way to go. If I knew about that setup as well as the the slight error in speedo readout with the 225's before hand, I would have considered the 235's. That said, the 18" setup I purchased were take-offs from a new car - i.e., wheels and tires were already mated.

I went from 265/35 R19 summers on my RS5 to 255/40 R18 for winters. As I recall the circumference difference was very slight.

215/50/17 is the same size as the 19s... Even better for pothole season.

Nice! I'm playing chicken with winter here in Colorado, still have the summer P-Zeros on. Good to know about that difference, I have a set of 225/40/18 snows (Michelin X-Ice) from my previous car and am trying to find a good set of 18" winter rims to put them on.

i'm digging these wheels from tirerack with 235/40/18's. maybe even for all year wheels, but i'll keep my 19's just in case. axis sport xq in matte graphite silver. think i'm gonna order one, unmounted to see them in person, as vw pic is the only real photo i've found. this way if i don't like only paying return shipping for 1 instead of 4.

ECSTuning is having a 20% off sale on ALZOR wheels. I bought the ALZOR 628 wheels last year for my winter setup. I put X-Ice3 tires on them. They were great.

Nice. I've been looking at these two from TireRack, I've never bought wheels from them but they have a distribution center in Denver, so I can just go pick them up, which is nice:

OZ Envy:

Andros Spec S:

Both are pretty cheap and fairly similar to my stock wheels:
