2015 A3 Cabriolet: Is voice disabled?/rear seat headrests
#31
I have done several mods...and was not going to buy a vagcom for $500. Not sure exactly but the A3 is on the list, depending on year.
Supported Vehicles | Carista OBD2 - Vehicle Diagnostics and Customization
Mods I have done:
1) Seatbelt Chime Off
2) Convertible top remote key (can also do windows)
3) Unlock all doors instead of just driver
4) Voice Recognition
5) Footwell LED's on all the time
6) GPS warnings
There are a ton more things.

I've gotten several requests for information about activating the Voice Command. I had this done a while back because I hated having that button on the steering wheel which did nothing! I rarely use it, but there you have it. LOL.
My dealer is Audi of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania (near Philadelphia)--just google them. As I had just bought the car and requested the activation through my salesman, they deemed fit not to charge me, but could easily have charged for the labor (about an hour). I have no idea who I dealt with in the service department, but if your Audi dealer calls the dealership's service department I'm sure they can point them in the right direction.
They had never done one before mine so they had to contact Audi USA for detailed instructions on reprogramming the car. It's just a setting defaulted to OFF which they can switch to ON, but only on new models like the 2015 A3, or so they said.
Hope that helps!

I went to my dealer with the codes I found online and they applied them. I now have the SDS enabled, although I rarely use it.
The steps are below:
The steps are below:
select STG 5F (infotainment)
STG long coding -> function 07
byte 24
Enable Bit 1

Out of curiosity: Does anyone know "why" there is a difference in the headrest design US spec vs EURO spec?
I´m from Germany and therefore have the sleek headrests that dont block the view - but I wonder why there even is a difference?
Btw.: If it would be helpful for anyone I can post some close-up pics of the EURO spec headrests (maybe there´s even a part number printed on...)

In respect to my own question from above
Found a hint in a Mini Cooper S Convertible review by C/D (Link to review).
They say "...A regulatory quirk forbids Mini from offering Americans the fold-down rear headrests it uses in Europe, ..."
Still I would be curious what it is exactly...

Confirm Voice Activation
I can confirm Sergio's voice activation instructions. My Audi dealer did not have the info, but I fond Sergio's post, and they were able to implement it in about 10 minutes. Voice works great and my kudo's to Prestige Audi in Lakewood Colorado.
