sounds like a bad turbo

If it was bad turbo, wouldn't be a persistent problem? Drove the car for 30 miles today both in S mode and in manual mode without any issues. Applied throttle quite freely up to 6k rpm's, shifting manually up and down trying to replicate the problem with no success.
I am not really sure what to think about it but I would think that if it was bad turbo or engine itself, the car would not be drivable. I will be taking it to the dealer next week.

that's good, sounded like all the stories I've read about blown turbos. Hopefully the later build s3's have the latest turbo revision that will be more reliable

Did some pretty aggressive driving today for about 40 miles in both S and Manual modes. Red lined a couple of times, gave my best to replicate the EPC issue to no effect.
I am hopeful that it was just a bizarre one time malfunction of some sort.

If you have not yet, I would still take it in and have it "written up" to document the issue.

Yes, there is probably a code in the computer that they can document.
