The cars are here in the USA. I saw one a couple weeks ago when I was at the dealer.

I know the 2016's have started arriving - we've test driven one and are trying to buy one. But looks like we'll have to order to get what we want. If a 2017 is on the near horizon, that would obviously be useful to know! Thanks.

I would think the 2017 e-tron won't be apart of the mid-cycle redesign and might be updated for 2018.
The differences between the 17-18 year model could be digital speedo area, updated front and rear fascia's and a marginal bump in battery (from 8.8kW to maybe 10kW), the later being doubtful.

The car I saw at the dealership was an A3 e-tron, ~ $47k. Isn't this a brand new model?

OK, just looked at the dealer's inventory. They claim to have 5 of them, all called 2016MY.

I've only heard of 2016's, as well. This is the launch article that has confused me:
It's a Champagne Celebration for the 2017 Audi Q7 and 2017 Audi A3 e-tron Launch Event - Press Release - Digital Journal

I wonder if the "2017" is a mistake...
