Default Aftermarket Wheels + Tires on A3

The A3 Premium Plus that I am looking to buy has 225/40/18 with 8.0 in wide wheels; I've been looking at some rims on TireRack since I'm not familiar with brand wheels. This is the one I am looking at (please feel free to comment or provide opinion on this rim or rims from TireRack in general) but wanted to know what are safe size tires to buy to go along with this rim. I am looking to stay in 18's for cost purposes rather than move to 19's. Also, I don't want any lower profile than 40 even though others look better. I want to maintain costs as well as ride comfort. But, I wanted to go a bit wider. Would 235/40/18 look and improve handling a little bit? Or 245/40/18 be better (no rub?). How about width of rim from 8.0inch to 8.5? I may come off a bit confusing but was hoping to get opinions/recommendations for the slightest improvement over stock size.

Here is the rim I'm considering:

Axis Sport XQ Matte Graphite Silver

or

Avarus AV12 Titanium Gun Metal

I feel like these are the closest to the S3 rims that I like for a cheaper price than probably finding OEM S3 rims. Any help on size recommendations for the A3 or opinions on the rims would be greatly appreciated! If you know or feel there are good quality brands or rims to consider in similar styles please pm me or write to my thread Thanks!

Quite a few views on my threa. Do people not put on aftermarket rims on the A3's rather more maybe on the S3? Any responses would be great!

i posed some similar questions a few months back ( https://www.audiworld.com/forums/aud...erack-2891147/ )

was looking at the exact same wheels. even went so far as to buy one to see in person, but our winter was so mild last year, that i never had the need to buy the whole set and swap em out. so trying to wear out the 19's this summer before making the switch. i think the xq's look better than the avarus (imo). the matte graphite silver is a lot darker than the name would imply. but still really attractive wheels. was able to find a set of center caps that fit right.

was looking at going from 235/35/19 DOWN TO 235/40/18. the 19's are just a little too aggressive looking and driving for my driving wants and needs. the 18's might make me look less ostentatious, be a little more comfortable and still give good handling. was gonna get conti dws06.

here is a really nice tire comparison tool. https://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

Wow, small world with similar wheel conversation. Can I put a 235/40/18 tire on this XQ? Tireracks recommendation when pairing the rim up to a tire is the 225/40/18 but wanted to go 235/40/18. I'm leaning toward that rim as well. The Conti DWS06 is also the tire I am going with. Do people even buy used tires? I was going to take the tires off the stock rims and maybe put winter tires on those tires and sell those since they'll be pretty much new tires. Thanks!

I stayed with 18's and these are aftermarket. I get tons of complements everyday.

when I talked to a tire rack person direct, they said that would be a good match. I think their automatic matching is based on oem combos. but width is the same and diameter is .3% different, so almost a perfect match.

to get them to enter the cart as a set, add the wheels to your cart first, then search for tires by size, add the to your cart and it will then ask if you want to make them a set.

the link you posted takes me to the same wheels but showing them as for a Mercedes. looks like the same size, bolt and offset, but might be why the sites not working for you.

i'm having a hard time deciding between silver and grey as I have a silver a3 cabriolet. the grey is very dark.

send/post pics if or when you get the set!!

235 is widest OEM width and it would probably be best not to exceed that. The DWS06 tires have good winter traction unless weather gets ridiculous. You might want to think about just keeping the OEM wheels and tires. If the tires have little mileage, you might find that putting them back on with OEM wheels could result in a more generous trade, particularly if the Conti tires have a fair amount of miles when you trade.

For once I am not changing wheels. Have stock 18" wheels on my 2015 A3 cab. Did change tires. To Conti DWS-06. Very good ride & traction. Have had DWS's on 2 previous cars. Highly recommend.

btw, this is a decent quality, good color match, good fit center cap to replace the axis sport

I don't know why it puts the Mercedes in the link. I tried fixing it and same result. I was looking at these rims with 235 size but wanted to know if this rim takes 235 max.
