Default Any one else drive only in "manual" mode?

I drove stick for the last 14 years and was very hesitant to get an automatic. However, I seem to enjoy the manual mode and hardly ever drive the car in"D". I like the ability to have power on tap and control my speed by downshifting.

I constantly change between D/S and Manual but manual when I want to break/slow down with the engine and S when I want some power out of the car.

I also came from a manual (RS4) but also have another car with an electronic clutch.
I rarely use D. I don't like any of the preset modes chosen by Audi.

As much as I want to lie and say that I drive around in manual all the time, the reality is that maybe 20% of the time I use manual, the rest of the time I leave it in "D"

Default Manual mode from S no lag

I noticed starting from S the turbo lag is essentially gone; drive in Dynamic.

I drive 75% in manual mode and 25% in auto. My biggest problem is shifting into neutral when I think I'm in manual mode! I'm breaking myself into a new habit...hand on the shifter only when in manual mode...hand off the shifter when in D.

I love the rev matching on the downshifts and I love being able to shift it smooth and crisp while motoring around traffic. I Love Stronic.

I put it only in D while in traffic and always end up in neutral!!

I keep wondering if it would be a good idea to have A button on the shifter handle side that would act as a manual clutch button. You could hold that button and free rev the motor at any time......

Manual is the only mode I use. I came from a 135i and DCT where I did the same thing. I will say that DCT overall is probably slightly better than the DSG, but the DSG keeps you on your toes and makes it FEEL more like a manual driving experience. For instance, DCT was better at automatically downshifting for you as you came to a stop. For some reason, DSG wants to hold you in 3/4 gear even when you slowing down to 15-20 mph. So instead of already being in 2nd (as DCT would automatically do), I have to be more alert and get there myself.

Love both systems, but either way, manual makes it the better experience for me.

I shift manual 95% of the time - still miss having a clutch sometimes, but the ease of getting going fast with a finger-flick is priceless
