Default Cabriolet window programming

Is it possible to program the cabriolet so that:
1. When you put the top down the windows go down also?
2. When you put the top up, the windows close automatically?

Probably is using the Ross-Tech VCD, but you'd have to find where those values are at and if the module is accessible (might have an undiscovered access code).

Have you asked the dealership? They might be able to do it for you easily with their equipment.

Don't know of any way to program those options from the MMI, but for about $300 you can buy a SmartTop module which will let you choose those options, as well as one-touch roof operation, and remote operation of the roof and windows, all using the original remote. Not cheap, but well worth it (I think) for the added functionality it gives the car. Nothing like opening the windows or dropping the top on a summer day as you walk to the car, to clear out all the hot air Before you get in! Also fun to see people's bemused expressions as the empty car seemingly does this stuff by itself

Hey Peter, have you bought/installed the smarttop module and if so, any issues at all?

I asked the dealer to check on being able to roll and leave the windows down when putting the top down and after contacting Audi, they said there is no way for them to do this. Don't know if that means "it can't be done", but the dealer wouldn't do it.

I thought I seen somewhere, there is VCD coding to allow you to lower the roof/windows with the keyfob. Its the "konfort" closing/opening I believe. Be great, so you can save 300 bucks. I'll see if I can find it.

I had the SmartTop on one of my previous convertibles (Infiniti), because I wanted the one touch operation and the ability to work the top while in motion. But the A3 already allows you to work the top up to 31 mph and the top movement is quick enough that a $300 SmartTop doesn't have the same appeal.

Yes, MAKIRK, I bought the SmartTop for my last car, a VW Eos, and my new A3. It's true, a couple of the SmartTop benefits are already in the A3's programming, like remote window lowering, and operation of the roof up to 31 mph, but as you can see from the excellent video BREESWAY posted above, it makes using the top easier and more fun, and isn't that what having a convertible is all about? The way I figure, when you're spending close to $50,000 on a car that isn't the most practical or utilitarian, another $300 to make it more fun seems well worth it. Plus, I was able to sell my old SmartTop unit from the VW on eBay for close to $200 (they are make/model specific), so that paid for much of the new one.

I use the SmartTop features all the time. It lets you customize the functions, so you can have top up with windows up OR down, and top down with windows up OR down. You decide. Also, two taps on the roof control instead of one will reverse it--for instance, my car is set up to lower the roof and the windows with one touch, but two touches will lower the roof and put the windows UP instead. Likewise, it is set up for roof up and windows up with one touch, but a double tap will raise the roof and leave the windows DOWN instead. As if that weren't enough customization, you can reverse the switch action so that pulling up raises the top, and pushing down lowers it. Makes more sense to me, so I have mine set that way. You can change these settings at any time, or disable the module (for when the car goes in for service, etc) from the driver's seat using the door lock and turn signal switches, or you can plug in the USB and make changes with a laptop. The latter would be a nuisance, but is useful if you wanted to update the firmware.
