I just got done doing the Telescopic vents for my US s3. For some reason Audi decided not to give the US cars telescopic vents. But it is possible to get this functionality pretty easily.

First off I followed the steps located here: Fourtitude.com - Lets Talk Telescopic Vents

There are 2 tricky steps in the process.

The first tricky step was finding the T-Clips that hold the inner vent together. They are located behind the flaps- with 1 clip behind each fin. I was not able to find a screwdriver that would fit behind the flaps. Instead I used T-pins and got behind the clips to raise them up. With about 3 T-pins inserted i was able to pry on side open. Then I inserted a couple more T-pins on the other side and it came right apart. (see image for T-Pin insertion)

The second tricky part was removing the supports in the center. You really need to shave off the entire support so that each of the 3 plastic prongs are smooth. this is because those 3 prongs will slide into small slits which allow for the vents to be telescopic. My first attempt at removing the supports was unsuccessful. I did not clear off enough material. Take a look at the attached pic- its not pretty but you will never see this side of the vent.


I did this mod so that I can mount my phone landscape on my CarL vent ClearMount. Take a look at the video clip:
