Man, this is kind of an age-old discussion for VW owners. I can remember more than once having to drive home holding my door closed !

I have never had to do this in any vehicle I've owned (S3 will be my first import).
Last winter in Michigan we had temps consistently well below zero.

LOL, fasten your seat belt for new experiences !
It was not a routine event. Seemed to happen when temps were just below freezing and it was raining. The door would unlock and open, but the striker mechanism or something internal to the door would hang up (freeze) and the door would not stay closed. If you got lucky, it would thaw as the heat came on and the car warmed up

Some of the guys found relief from this by using a water-displacing spray lube. I think I've got some stuff for motorcycle chains that helped a bit.
