Getting 13-14 mpg in town
I bought a 2015 2.0t Quattro from a friend, and while I generally love it, I'm getting pretty abysmal mileage.
I drive the car to work once or twice a week to work, which is all in-city, almost all downhill. On these commutes, the short term onboard computer (#1) gives me an average of 13-14 mpg.
My theories:
1) Brakes?
I've noticed that the brakes are very tight, and without a really feather touch, I end up screeching to a halt. It is possible that one or more of the calipers are a little tighter than they should be?
2) Transmission/drivetrain issues?
do I have something switched on that I shouldn't?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ask your friend that you bought it from what type of mileage they were getting.
Calculate the mileage yourself to make sure it's accurate. Just fill up, reset the trip mileage, drive a 1/2 tank or more, fill up again and see how many gallons of gas you used versus how many miles you drove.
Use the real-time mpg on the dash to see if you can identify when you might be getting bad gas mileage.
The brakes are sensitive on my S3 too. They are electronically assisted. So I doubt that's it. I can get about 20mpg driving very spiritedly, almost 30 if I'm conservative in comfort mode.

Downhill both ways?
Regardless, it seems low, unless you're pedal to the metal from every stoplight. I average around 19 mpg with my S6, which has twice the displacement/number of cylinders and weighs almost a thousand pounds more.

That does seem pretty low. My wife gets a bit over 20 around town and just over 30 on the highway (at about 80 MPH) in her A3. I get 19 around town and 28 on the highway in my S7.
