Well for Waze, but it's retro quality SD analog video. Totally legible, but it isn't crystal clear. Only downside is that you can't have regular audio on another source (Radio, SD etc.) and display Waze at the same time.

I would never use it for shows/movies in motion, and you can get better quality from SD card etc. for pre-recorded video. It would work in a pinch however (ideally when stopped).

I would say must have for best traffic routing.

I tried your setup and got it to work, but I'm also having spotty connection issues. For example, I get Waze to show on the MMI for a while, but then it flickers to an error message like in one of these pics below. Is this the type of problem you resolved by just pinching the adapters? And did you pinch the middle pin or the outer ring? (I haven't had any luck with this.)

My best guess is the hdmi adaptor. I'm having issues as well, mainly with picture. Sound I'd no problem, but picture is in and out

I'd try to test something else with a composite video connection (a SLR camera perhaps). If fuzzy, make sure it's the same signal type NTSC or PAL as the HDMI adapter. I'd also hook the setup up to a TV to see if you can isolate that. The AMI cable issue probably means the AMI cable is defective or not the right type. I bought all my stuff from the S3 list.

or you can get this Y-splitter

Don't do that with iPhone. Get a dual USB charger and plug a lightning cable into the female lightning port on the HDMI adapter and the other one into the HDMI adapter itself.
