Years ago I saw instructions for a motorcycle to wire up the remote to the headlights so flashing them twice rapidly would activate it. This has the added feature of replacing a dummy panel tho! Nice.

VERY cool! I've heard that the homelink feature is now going to be availble as a Port install item (around $300 - very heavy cost).

Thanks for the nice comments.
Removing the trim? Short answer is extremely carefully. I had some maintenance instructions given to me and will have to post them later.
For the illumination hook up i found the simplest way was to connect to the rear console lighter socket used for the rear passengers. It is surrounded by an illuminated ring that turns on with the accessory lighting.

As requested here are some instructions on accessing the center controls:
(... not responsible for scratches, mishaps, :-( ...be gentle, don't use metal screw drivers as the metal will leave marks)

Removal of shift boot

Pull up shift boot out of the way

Removal of selector position display - flex Tab #2

Position Display out of the way - no need to disconnect...

GO Easy on these trim surround tabs...

Removal of trim surround

Trim surround

Gently but firmly snap apart upper console controls

Remove upper console controls and disconnect e-brake button
