Ha ha! I assure you both cars are quite legally parked, right in the middle of Broad Street. It has been commonplace along parts of South Broad between Oregon and Washington Avenues since the days of Mayor Rizzo back in the 80's, and the parking authority has unofficial orders not to go near it. The police can ticket or tow as they please, but they allow this "overflow" parking for the congested residential neighborhoods that surround Broad. I just happen to live ON it. I also think the location's high visibility makes it safer than parking at the curb or on a quieter street.

I will be in Philly for a few days in October and your A3 will have an A3 brother. BTW how safe will it be to park in downtown garages overnight? Any suggestions on best ones.

Timgo2003: I always liked the Doubletree Hotel Garage at Broad and Locust Streets, but your car should be safe in any downtown parking garage. Just avoid the tiny garages where they park your car for you--these can be a little "iffy" at times.
MarkN1689: I thought I posted this before, but it's a rubber covered foam bumper pad that hangs from reinforced straps which go into the trunk. It's for parking protection, and flips up into the trunk when you're not parallel parked. It's called Parking Armor and is available online in three sizes. I have the middle size. Better than the flimsy plastic bumper bullies, and heavy enough that it won't flap around in even in heavy winds.
