Can these be added to the rear brakes, if one wanted?

I don't need extra S3 branding on the rears, but they really do look ridiculous being that they don't have any sort of cover to hide the brake pad and they rely on that wire spring thing. Just looks weird. The stock front calipers are regular, unfancy floating calipers but they at least have that plate covering the side of the caliper that makes it look nice. Here is what the front caliper looks like without the plate:

No, that's only the replacement plate for the front caliper. As can be seen from my photos above, one of mine fell off and I needed to purchase that from ECS to replace it. Wish I hadn't as I went with a big brake kit shortly after!

Curious to what big brake system you went with? thanks

StopTech 380mm/6 piston. I track my car a lot and am absolutely pumped about this new setup. I also ordered matching rear rotors from adamsrotors.com. Those pesky rear calipers still remain, however.

Nice those look really good, I eventually want to upgrade my A3 in the future. Was looking at the TTRS upgrade but was disappointed I can't use my stock 18" wheels with them because of the clearance of the hub. I will be getting a new 19" set in the spring time but wanted to use my 18" stock set for the winter. My safest bet for now is upgrading to the S3 brakes but I'll keep doing my research on what else will work. Thanks for the pics!

Yeah I need 19s to clear these calipers. I run 19" winter tires so that's fine and if I ever get a flat on the front I have to move a rear wheel up and put the spare on the back.

Stock S3 brakes are nice. If you're not tracking your car it's probably not really worth it to upgrade beyond that, unless you have your heart set on it or want it for looks. Larger size does nothing for stopping distance, just fade resistance. Also make sure you look into how the upgrade affects bias with stock A3 rear brakes as they are smaller than S3 rears by 1.5". Apologies if you already know all this.

Thanks for the info. Yea I probably won't be tracking the car, but I really like the looks of the bbk behind the wheels and since I probably will go APR stage 1 I figured I have some better stopping power. The only reason I started looking at other kits besides the S3 stocks was because I found a site that had the TTRS kit for not so much more than what ECS tuning sales the S3 upgrade kit. But with them not clearing the 18's and the facts you stated I think I'll stick with the S3 upgrade. I also am going to do the rears too. Thanks for your help and insight!

does stoptech publish 100-0 stop distance numbers with them on an s3?

i wonder if they are better or worse than stock? yes the stoptechs will be better on the track for the heat dissipation but for real world driving- i think they could be worse?

The 100-0 would be virtually identical to stock given all other things being equal. The only way it might be a bit better than stock is because the rotor is 2.4 lbs lighter and the caliper is 6 lbs lighter. However, after just 2 or 3 100-0 stops, the stock brakes will fade and distance will drastically increase where as the StopTechs performance will stay consistent. So, for real world driving, performance will not be much different. Also the pads used matter a ton and I'm of course only talking about a "kind" street pad.
