Oil light just came on, have to drive 100 miles...
So light came on while in traffic and my 25k service is in about 1k miles. All dealerships are not available to do service till Thursday, but need to drive down to South Bay for training, which is about 100 miles RT.
Not happy that a "new" car that I drive normally is burning oil like this. Is this normal for Audi's? Car literally is driven a few miles a week, but sits in driveway more than anything. Will check levels when I'm out of this training I'm stuck in.
Thanks for the feedback/thoughts in advance.

Which oil warning message are you seeing?
Doesn't the A3 have a dipstick?

Are you able to check the oil level using the dipstick?

A3's DO have a dip stick.
mroberte, you know that if you kill your motor with the low oil light on you will be paying to fix it.
Stop at any auto supply, WalMart, gas station and add a 1/2 qt.
If you catch AutoZone when they're slow they might check/fill it for you.
Good Luck and give us an update

Got quart from dealer. Guy quickly stated, you should always have a quart of oil as most of audi's and particularly this gen a3/s3 burn oil. It's a known problem. Will be in for service Thursday.

so dipstick oil level was on first line, aka minimum. they shouldn't space out the service intervals out so far with this type of oil consumption. i get that there is oil burning, just wouldnt ecpect this in a new car. just disappointing i guess to me.

omg this just in: newsflash cars eat oil over time.
why would you wait around for the dealer for an oil min light.
go get oil, check oil level on dipstick, add oil.
why are you so dumbfounded. your tuned and the car has 24k miles. smh

Because Audi determined service intervals based on R&D. If this car can't go 10K miles per intervals as they recommend, its cause for concern. This car is hardly tuned, and breathing better doesn't equate to burning additional oil. Running the engine like you stole it does, and that is something I don't do as I don't have the opportunity as I'm usually in traffic.
If my almost 20 year old, 165K+ mile previous car didn't burn oil and I drove that car far harder than this one (manual transmission), why isn't this engine, that has been out for a few decades, any better? I worry because, the engine has 24K miles and burning oil could either mean premature cylinder ring deterioration (not seated right from bad break in period) or blowby (catch-can is on order), which will be $$$ down the road.
Aren't Audi's easily able to get to 100K miles without major hurdles if proper maintenance is done?
