Has anyone self installed or had a third party shop install it? I called Audi of Oakland and they quoted me $350 for an install + $210 for the part.

Are there any warranty implications if I have a family friend's shop install the part?

Incredibly easy install, I knocked mine out in no time with the proper tool.

Do a search, there's a thread out there where I listed the cutter I got on Amazon.

it was a fun install for me. I used an electric hand saw but I would recommend not going that route but to use the pipe cutter instead. there just isn't enough room while on floor jacks to use that tool.

I did it from start to end in an hour on jackstands in my garage using a sawzall. Awesome mod. There might be warranty implications, but I can't think of much that this mod would effect. They can't deny warranty for unrelated items. They should charge for 1 hr max install.

An hours worth of DIY labor. And I used the tool scutchins referred me to on Amazon. Super easy to use pipe cutter. Make sure you have a 13 mm socket with a deeper well for tightening the 4 nuts (total) on the 2 clamps however. Also make sure that when you position the clamps, the tab portion with the nuts is rotated as to not make contact with any surface under the car. I didn't rotate one of mine enough and it would sometimes touch the heat shield and cause a rattle when on a bumpy road. Corrected that this weekend.
