arU4ic, what type of tires do you have your S3.

That's probably the root of your trouble right there.

Negative.

It's a tough one for them, I'm sure… driving style is everything for gas mileage.

I've noticed a HUGE gas mileage difference when going anything over 70mph. On the highway, keep the gear in 6th in manual mode too and put on cruise control. This will keep me in around 33-36mpg.

If I go anything over 72mpg this drops me down to 24-27mpg. Its strange that such a small increase in mph makes such a HUGE difference in mpg. I've done this on numerous fill ups just make sure this was correct, and drive the same exact commute each morning/night and its pretty consistent.

So if you can stay and manage to be in comfort mode and stay under 70 on the highway (very difficult) you should see a better gain in mpg. The figures above are for the A3, however S3 owners should see roughly a 24-27mpg highway I'm assuming.

I see the exact same thing. Ideally for any car, 55mph would be the best mileage. As you increase, it goes down. This is especially true once you go over 65-70, the mileage drops A LOT. I don't just mean from the gauge cluster, but real miles per fill up. The problem is who wants to drive less than 70mph in this car??

I tried this and you are right, but not close to 33 mpg, more like 27 though. (on a flat surface)

Talking to the dealership on Friday.

Got 229mi from a full tank with 20mi range left. I've been doing a mix of moderate to aggressive driving through side streets and freeways.

I'm getting 230 miles per tank full which averages out to almost 19 MPG. This includes 30% highway driving. Hope it gets better.

The S3 sticker states 26mpg Average. I'm really hoping for at least 23mpg average.

3mpg less than advertised seems like a very reasonable expectation.
