Default Sportback

There have been a few internet "news" stories about the RS3 Sportback recently intro'd for European markets. Any word on whether this model will make it to the US, and if so what trim levels (A3, S3??). From the photos it looks amazing. I do know Mr. Hansen had a link to photos, etc. a while back, but I am wondering whether it will come to the US.

Most likely the RS3 Sedan version will reach North America. The hatchback/sportback will not.

Best guess is that we will get the RS 3 as a sedan, mainly because history has proven that American buyers aren't ready for a $60K+ "hatchback". Even Subaru fought it with the WRX STI, as cool as that car is, people wanted the long trunk. I don't understand it.

I think the hatchback brings back memories of the station wagon in the U.S. Also, when gas was so cheap, we all just went for the overly gigantic SUVs and Pickups anyway. And let's not even talk about the lack of competitive diesel...some things in this county are backwards.

Most definitely. I just don't think of a hatchback when I think of a performance sports car. Especially in the US where most hatchbacks are "fuel-efficient" or economy size models. i.e. the Prius, Honda Fit, anything from Scion.

From a looks standpoint I prefer the Sedan. I always associate hatchbacks/fastbacks with Roof-Racks and Surfboards. The Fastback just doesn't look as nice as the Sedan in my humble opinion.
