2002 Audi A3 Automatic - 4100 RPM at 70 MPH
Good evening !
I have recently bought a 02 A3 automatic with 58,000 miles on it as my first vehicle and I very much enjoyed it ! The comfort and the handling felt great !
Until...
...I realized that the engine coolant temp sensor was wrong (erratic measurements on OBD scanner) - common failure
...I realized that the engine wasn't warming up enough (no warm air unless going at freeway speed) - open thermostat
But those are pretty straightforward, a bit of research showed me that, what really bothers me is that the engine revs at 4,100 RPM @ 70 MPH. It gets very loud on the highway and I have driven it for 500 miles between 3 900 and 4100 RPM in one afternoon with no engine related issue or noise.
- I can count 3 shifts, the needle moves back with every shift
- The manuel says that this model has 4 gears, (I will trace a graph tomorrow of the RPM vs MPH for each gear)
- I have only the P0116 code, which is related to the temperature problem
- Redline is at 6500
- The OK sign lights up every time I start the car
- 0-60 is done in about 14 seconds (1.6 gas engine)
I have looked at some posts but none of them ever solve the problem or give closure, I would really appreciate any advice or ideas, as I cannot afford to take it to the dealer right now. Thank you in advance !
