2010 A3 TDI Engine Noise
Hi everyone,
I'm a new Audi owner. Purchased this 2010 Audi A3 TDI (automatic) with 85,000 km on it. It recently started making a clunking noise from the engine bay. You can listen to it in this video I posted:
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/z-nY9-xMeAI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It only occurs while the engine is cold, and is gone after 5-8 minutes.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Andrew

New Video Showcasing Engine Noise
I made another video that I feel showcases the sound a bit better. I just turned the car on and I am now exiting the driver door at the start of the video. You can find it here:
I did go to an Audi dealership to see if they could figure it out. They were unable to and said it would require a ticket to be opened with Audi and that the car would have to remain with them for a couple days. I did not do this, but maybe I'll have to if I can't at least narrow it down.
If anyone has any ideas as to what it could be it would be greatly helpful.
Thanks,
Andrew

its always so hard to tell from a video but it does not sound like the sound is coming from within the engine, maybe its one of the engines accessories like the water pump or something? try listening around under the hood and try to dial in where the noise is coming from. that will help narrow down the possibilities.

If you are still trying to locate the engine noise you might want to give these a shot.
I have used them in the past and it really helps isolate engine noises to identify where the sound is coming from. Just be careful around any moving parts. Also, be gentle when placing it on anything as bumping it against stuff can sound rather loud.

Sorry I think you might have a problem with your dual mass fly wheel - sounds like the same problem I had earlier this year with my A3.
I'm in the UK. It cost me £420 on labour,
£795.92 for parts including:
Dual mass flywheel
Clutch cover
Clutch plate
Clutch bearing
Flywheel bolts
Clutch bolts
I used a 'mobile mechanic' rather than going through a main dealer. I think the fly wheel accounted for half of the parts costs.

Try to see if revving the engine solves the problem to like (1500 RPM and maintain just to see if you can hear something).
I suspect that may be some Pulley that got the bearings worn, any heat protection that got loose or something like that that might be vibrating against the engine.
Also try at Idle to engage and disengage the clutch as well as moving the steering wheel lock to lock or turn On and Off the A/C System (all of these procedures should be done at separate times)
Please report back
