Got A2DP bluetooth with factory phone radio bluetooth to work on 2012 A3 using Grom
I researched this on the line (not online, thanks "Internship") and came up empty with solutions to getting Pandora to play from my phone to the Audi Concert radio (p/n 8P0 035 186 AC). I spoke to Grom support and they said it should work, even though their web site states that their product doesn't support a USA model 2012 Audi A3 TDI, and in fact it did.
I bought the bluetooth BT3 product from Grom on ebay for Audi. It came with a 12 pin harness that you swap out with the existing 12 pin harness. Your SAT function will no longer work. There is an additional 8ish pin harness piggy backed along with the 12-pin. Just let that one dangle free. You only need to incorporate the 12 pin.
Pair the Grom bluetooth to your phone. Mine is android, galaxy S5. It should work on any phone with bluetooth, technically. Practically, I haven't tested anything else. I only checked "media" to be active on the Grom bluetooth connection on my phone. I did not activate "phone" on Grom bluetooth connection on my phone. I kept the factory radio "phone" bluetooth connection paired to my phone. They can both exist simultaneously. The factory radio bluetooth calling and receiving calls works as before. Steering wheel buttons do not change. Steering wheel button can be used to skip Pandora songs.
I pulled the radio out with some homemade sheetmetal wedges (or buy some Audi/Vw radio double DIN Euro removal keys form Walmart for $6). I swaped out the blue 12 pin connector on the factory harness with the Grom identical 12 pin connector. I then attached the Grom ground wire to a screw on the back of the radio for grounding. I shoved the Grom unit in back and below the radio, then put the radio back. Nothing to route or put in glove compartment.
The not so obvious thing to do now is you have to double-click the "CD" button to get into CD-Changer mode on the radio. SAT radio will no longer work. Once in CD-Changer mode, turn on pandora, or whatever you want to stream from your phone.
In the second picture I show the pin out diagram where the 12-pin connector goes. I'm not sure if there's a way to utilize the SAT radio functionality along with CD-Changer, but the info is there if someone wants to tinker.

Hi Dr. Evil,
Thank you so much for this. I'll be ordering one of the Groms + BT unit for my next paycheck. Damn adapters are pricey! Anyways, I'll let you know how I do on my end. By the way, I registered to the site just to comment on this. Thanks again!

Sad to report the unit I purchased was the USB 3 and purchased the bluetooth accessory separately which wasn't too stable. I would have to disconnect the Grom device from the back of the unit for it to be recognized from the system which which would be kind of hard to do while driving . I sent the unit back for a refund and now purchased the actual BT 3 unit you had success with. Let's see if it's any different.
I reflashed the unit, did some swapping and decided that after 3 days of tinkering the unit would need to go back. I'll let you know of my success/failure.
