hello, owner of new 2015 A3 1.8T. car driver perfectly mostly in the city. i am having very low MPG, 12mpg for short trips, and 16mpg since car has been bought. so far it has 250miles on it. no problem whatever (check engine, low tire, etc). Been told mpg will get better after 1k and that i have to drive long distances too. is that true?
is this normal? did anyone experience this when they first drove their car from the dealer? i am not too worried but i feel like 16mpg is way too low compared to the advertised 23mpg (which we all know it on paper only).

I am getting much better mileage, and have been since day 1. I have about 2,200 miles on mine so far, and get about 25 around town and over 34 highway.

If your short trips are really short, like a mile or two, I can see the mileage being low. My RS7 has 6000 miles city and 5000 highway, and the average for the total is 20mpg. City (no freeway) about 16. Watching the graph, it starts at about 3mpg and takes several miles to finally get to 16. A lot of fuel needed to get engine to operating temp.

If my typical short trip was only 2 miles, my mileage average would probably be less than 10.
