No heat and a weird popping noise
Hello,
I have an 2006 A3 and have been having a heating problem.
The heater just stopped putting out hot air and a strange popping noise from behind the radio/AC has been intermittently when I stop. The sound is almost like a piece of plastic that is cracked and popping against itself.
I don't know if the loss of heat is related since the air first coming out is warm but turns cold.
I would appreciate any thoughts on this. I haven't had any time to troubleshoot other than fuses.
Thanks

There's a little actuator that drives the flapper door for the air direction and regulates the air flow for defrost and cabin air. I found it was getting stuck and just alternating forward and back in one position and caused a sound exactly like you describe. The unit is in behind and under the radio which is also where you describe.
Mine was a different model but if you look up part number 1K0907511 you should get a picture of what the part looks like.
