RPM Oscillation

RPM Oscillation
I recently bought a 2009 S5 manual transmission with 12500miles only. I really enjoy the car however I have what I believe to be a problem with the rpm's when gearing down to stopping when the car is running at normal temp. When approaching a stop light for example, I gear down as usual until stopped, I release the accelerator, apply foot brake and engage the clutch and release the gear. At this point the rpm's go from 800rpm to approx 1600rpm, then come to rest at 800rpm. When I then engage 1st gear and accelerate without hardly hitting the gas the car wants to fly!!! Any experiences, suggestions, recommendations appreciated. I have driven manual cars for a long time never experienced this. I traded in a 911 manual for the Audi, and never experienced anything like this with the Porsche

Congrats on the car - I thought I had low mileage on my '09 S5 with just 22K!
This is clearly not normal behavior. I suggest you run a diagnosis check with VCDS or take it to a dealer or independent shop to be checked out.

My 2008 S5 also does something similar where when I am decelerating and not in gear the car will rev to 1,200, drop to 800, and repeat. i do not have an issue where the car wants to take off at any point, though. I always assumed the car was running accessories/pulleys or was confused why it wasn't in gear.
Anyone else notice this or know what is going on?
