Am hunting a 2012 4.2 S5.
During this model year, was there a phased in MMI change?
I have a 2011 A8 and test drove a 2012 S5---but the MMI was much inferior to my A8. I was thinking/hoping the MMI interface in the 2012 would be at least the equal of what I have in the A8 (one year newer model--after all)
My test s5 was an early mfg 2012 car (mfg in August 2011)
Am hoping there was a running change later in 2011 or in 2012 production of the 2012 model (to upgrade the MMI to at least what I have in my 2011 A8)

The big MMI change for the U.S. B8 (A4/S4/A5/S5/Q5) occurred with the MY2013 - MMI 3G Nav Plus which included Audi Connect, Google search and Earth map overlay, Bluetooth Audio and many other services/functionality. The new series C7 (A6/S6/A7/S7) had the Nav Plus included one year sooner with the U.S. 2012 models forward.

it sounds like my 2011 A8's MMI wasn't included in the S5 until MY 2013. A full two years later---too bad

Also--is there any difference in the MMI 2012 versus 2011?

Not as positive on that one but believe the differences were minor. In the B8s, U.S. MY2010 changed from MMI 2G to the 3G and MY2013 to the 3G Nav Plus.

This is good data - I too am looking for a '12 S5 6MT but may go w/ a '13+ as I love the MMI in our '13 Q5.

there is a trade off---the MMI is inferior (no google maps---lower grade GUI)--BUT--it is still very functional---basically provides all one needs. AND---the V8 is just fantastic--the sound takes me back to my 1969 GTO----VERY glad I went the 2012 route---fantastic!
