I'm getting close to my warranty expiration and have read a lot about the carbon buildup issues. Does anyone have experience with that and is it something I should have checked prior to warranty expiration?

Audi won't do anything for you unless you throw a CEL for CB. However, assuming you have the NA 4.2, you should be covered for 10 years and 120k miles.

We are, on both our NA 3.2 Q5 and 3.0 SC S5. (letters issued by AOA)
A call to AOA can confirm this for your engine and peace of mind.

TonyR20 - what engine do you have? Unfortuantely the 4.2L V8 is not covered in that warranty.

That is correct. Only certain 2009-2012 3.2 engines and 2009-2013 3.0T engines are eligible for the Secondary Air Ports cleaning only (not valves or injectors) and then only if the car shows a CEL resulting from said carbon build-up.
