Default Front Grille Filler Panel

I have an S5 on the way (ordered in late July - should arrive in the first week of October) and I was curious about what's under the front grille filler panel.

I think I read somewhere that the European license plate frame is is built into the grille even on the US models.

Is that true?

By the way, I searched the forums and found info on the S4 but not the S5 - sorry in advance if this has already been discussed.

Very nice. Thanks for the sample image. Are there any holes or slots cut into that area of the grille around the cut out for the European plate? I was thinking about removing the filler panel to install a replica German license plate and was wondering if I'd have to clean up anything once the panel was removed.

Thanks!

I did the exact thing you're looking to do. Once you remove the two Torx 20 screws, it exposes the plastic grill that nicely fits a European plate. I think it looks better than a filler plate because it is more flush with the rest of the grill. There are no pre-drilled holes or slots to mount a plate on. I used strong double sided tape to hold on the plate and it's stuck on there for good.

^Same here...I used 3m outdoor double sided tape. Works perfect.

I may try the double sided tape option. That seems like a clean way to install it.

Also, I agree on the filler panel. It seems to stick out too far (see sample photo below). That's one of the main reasons that I'd like to remove it and expose the European style grille. Plus I think the car looks great with a European style plate on it.

Thanks for the great info guys.

Default 2013 A5 Front Grille

I have a 2013 A5 Coupe and it came from the dealer with the USA plate configuration on the front grille. Is the Euro space beneath the plastic holder on the 2013 ? I thought I read somewhere that the 2013 Coupe was an exception... thanks in advance !
