Garmin 66LM fits nicely over A5 mmi display
Used the black framed Garmin 66LM GPS as an alternative to the Audi Nav. Some 3/8 closed cell black foam with adhesive back along the top edge of the GPS remains slightly compressed and holds the unit in place. A low profile right angle power adapter wire runs in the crevice between the plastic top of the dash and the padded sunscreen that encompasses all the instrumentation. The wire slipped easily and remains completely out of sight. At the far left end, the wire slips under the cover of the fuse box and through a fuse to a ignition switched circuit. Plug and play!
Note that virtually all important display items are duplicated on the display between the tach and speedo, such as track name and number for music, time and mpg or whatever you have selected to display. When needed, the Garmin can be easily tipped forward to reveal the mmi display.
The nicest part is that the 66LM is a touchscreen device and costs only $200, about $2900 less than the Audi offering. Apologies for the poor smartphone picture.
