I've tried searching through my owner's manual and I can't figure out what this attachment on the glove box door is for. Guess it's safe to assume that it goes to a piece of optional equipment that isn't on my Premium Plus (and no, I don't have sat-nav). Can anyone tell me what this is for?

Ah, very nice. Perhaps a bit of overthinking on the part of Audi (it totally looks like something hinged ought to snap in there), but very handy, nonetheless. Thanks to both of you!
