I used to put a big down payment on my leases, but there are better things you can do with your money. Invest it in the market and you will probably see a better return than if you'd sunk it into something you don't own. Or use the money to pay down your mortage, if you have one. (No, I'm not Susie Orman.)

nice one !!
Get long term car rental for 12 month or short term car lease for 6 month based on your current financial situation and your projected future status.

Not sure quite what you are inferring, but my "long term car rental" is for 24 months and oddly enough the S5 doesn't seem any less special than the '13 Lexus GS F Sport I was financing. My current financial situation is fine, since I have no mortgage, and that bodes well for my future status as well. I will have the option of either financing again or leasing when the time comes around, although for me leasing right now is a great option with the equity markets in the US doing well.

The OP fails to state what is any amount is required as down payment and whether sales tax (assuming there is any where they live) is included. When I lease I do zero down, sales tax in for one all inclusive monthly rate. Just pay the bank fee upfront.
