Questions regarding 2012 Audi S5
Hello everyone, first time poster here looking to get into my first Audi! I went to the dealership the other day to look at a 2012 Audi S5 Prestige. I want to start out by saying how much I love the S5's. I live in Michigan and the car would mostly be used for summer driving as I have a Ram for the winter months although I liked that I would have the Quattro system if I needed to drive it during the winter.
Overall the car was fantastic. I would be coming from a 2014 Challenger RT and wanted a more "sophisticated" car. My one major concern about the S5 was that the automatic transmission felt very clunky and felt like it wouldn't pick a gear at low RPM's
For anyone who has the automatic transmission how do you feel about it? I'm not sure if maybe the one i test drove was just starting to go or if all of the S5 transmissions feel this clunky? Really hoping it was just that specific car and not all of the cars. Thanks for any input everyone!

I have had two S5's ….
… my 2012 was a six-speed manual and the 2014 was the seven-speed S-Tronic. Believe me, you will love the S-Tronic (and I am dyed in the wool manual guy). In Sport mode it is telepathic under hard driving. The good news with Quattro, is that you have a year-round driver. Go to severe service snow tires on a minus-1 size and you will have a mountain goat. I spent forty years in Massachusetts slogging through the snow and the Audi's have been fantastic.
Happy Motoring,
Eric
Here is an image of our old white S5 and the newer S5 with our S4 (my wife is an avid mountain carver as well). We burn through our tires in about 9-10K and that is with rotation.

Unfortunately the automatic transmission in the 2012 S5 is a traditional 6-speed tiptronic. Get a 2013 or newer with the dual clutch transmission. It's the ultimate transmission and that's coming from somebody who has driven manual transmission cars for well over 15 years.
