Really? $800 for Map Update?

I hear you, but I usually have my smartphone maps teed up before I even get in the car, and then typically just listen to the instructions via bluetooth to avoid the distraction of looking at a map. There are certainly some advantages to the MMI system, but that value proposition is getting fairly thin. In my opinion, the map updates should be part of the 3G connectivity subscription... that would help justify the cost of both.

Nobody pays that for navigation alone. What you pay for is upgraded technology. It is now aptly called the technology package and what you get for the money is an upgraded MMI that uses a fiber optic bus, has a much better display with higher resolution, faster CPU, HD Radio, Parking system with rear view camera, voice control, Audi Drive Select Individual mode etc. and it happens to include navigation. On many higher models it's even standard now.

Nothing but the best with updated routing traffic and other new features Audi cannot catchup too. I work with them and they are slow in getting things done compared to Google as tech is concerned. I'm using my DROID with Google everyday. Never use the navigation in car as it gets me confused and is really annoying unless it's fully muted. My two cents worth.
