Default RS5 Brake Dust

I have a 2014 RS5 in Sepang Blue, I have the 20 inch rotor design in silver and what drives me absolutely nuts is the brake dust. Is there any way of minimizing it?

Default Go to a different brake pad.

Generally you get what you pay for as well as performance. The OEM pad works well, perhaps not so well on the track, (use good brake fluid) but with dust. Less dust often equals worse performance.

That being said, you can minimize dust buildup if you keep your wheels clean and waxed or use Repel. I've found that Simple Green sprayed on relatively cool wheels and then brush/hosed off works well on Audi wheels. I've even used Purple Power for 15 years without damaging my Avus wheels (4.2A6 and 02S6.

Default Knight:

  • low dusting pads
  • wheel wax
  • hydrophobic coating
  • Armor All spray product (brake dust repellant)

Most RS4 owners changed pads to low dust. Myself I went with Centric. Pedal initial bite was different but it was worth the tradeoff

I have almost no dust because I used mgp caliper covers. They are great.

I really dislike caliper covers. But interesting that they reduce brake dust for you.

I would be too worried that they retain too much heat and damage the piston seals on the caliper

Default Me too, but the website says they minimize heat

I googled caliper covers and some such came up.

Caliper Covers

"Don't think that caliper covers are only a stylish upgrade. Having them installed, you dress up the naked calipers, and at the same time, you get rid of the brake dust, which reduces the cost of wheel cleaning supplies. Moreover, the accessory actually minimizes heat on calipers. Covering only the front of the brake caliper, the cover lets all heat escape through its top, reducing brake fade."

They must believe it minimizes all right, not necessarily less than without the calipers!
Just goes to show that you can't believe everything you see on the internet!
