I Believe the video states reverse and second are on the same shaft so the car starts in 2nd and then downshifts to 1st when underway. Best.

No, the video has it correct at approx. minute 2:18. All S-tronic variants have the odd gears + reverse on the inner shaft and even gears on the outer shaft. If first and reverse were on different shafts then there wouldn't be a delay as the transmission could preselect first and reverse.

Only happens in first gear and from a stop. Anyone have this problem? I bought the car used and had the 15k mile check up done, so I don't know if this was something that's always happened or after the check up.

Any insight would be appreciated!
I'm not certain that the explanations provided address the issue that you raise, unless I'm misinterpreting your condition. As I read it your hesitation occurs after launch and before you shift. If I got it right, then no it's not normal. My recollection is that some Porsche models, 987 Boxsters and Caymans, had a similar problem to the one you describe. I believe that their hesitation occurred around the 1800 -2200 RPM range. It's been at least five years since I read posts regarding the condition, but my recollection is that with the Porsches, there was a software problem which caused the hesitation. If you have the time and inclination, you may want to visit the Rennlist or Planet 9 forum and do a search on engine hesitation. Good luck.

For the Audi S-Tronic dual clutch transmission, when the car is in Park the computer has no idea whether you are going to go forwards or backwards so it preselects Reverse and 2nd gear. Why? Because second grear is on the same shaft as Reverse. So if you go forward it takes about a second to downshift to first.

the video also describes how to accelerate from first and downshift.

Does this answer your question?
The video is about DSG shifting from Park to Drive and how it pre-selects the Reverse and 2nd gear when it is in Park.

OP is experiencing the delay from a stop when the DSG is already in D/M mode. With the DSG already in D/M, the two gears selected are 1st and 2nd with Reverse gear not being a factor since it is not engaged at all.

Yes, before I shift. Its odd. Per a previous post in this thread, it doesn't happen when I push it in 1st gear or if I just smoothly engage 1st. Looks like it warrants a visit to the dealership....
