... does not provide easy pathways to more horsepower. You can reduce the drag of accessories (underdrive pulleys), remap the ECU, or upgrade the exhaust, but those gains are modest. Then it gets expensive real fast. There are plenty of shops that can replace camshafts, pistons, etc to change the performance characteristics, but at high cost and reduced drive-ability. The lure of engines with forced induction, such as the 3.0l supercharged engine is the relative ease of coaxing out more performance (increase the boost).
If I were seeking performance gains, I would work on the handling and braking...
