Default 2014 S5 Exhaust Pop

Been a while so I trust everyone is doing well and keeping it rubber side down.

I've performed the prerequisite "search the forum first, dummy", but have not found a satisfactory answer.

The wife's 2014 S5 is now doing some "back-firing" as she puts it, but I think it is probably barking on shift. I heard it from a newer S4 that I was "co-accelerating" with on the road, and thought it sounded badass.

Can anyone shed light on if this is design intent? A product of fuel mixture and timing and shift change?

No flags or lights being thrown on the dash.

Car has the DSG tranny.

Thanks for any helpful responses.

Cheers and War Eagle,
Bob

Default Update

After driving wife's S5, apparently the popping/backfire was an isolated event. Could not be reproduced. Concluding that the timing was off and it self-corrected...

You may have heard the throttle pop, which only occurs when the DSG is in (S) sport mode.

Wasn't the throttle pop. Familiar with that since the car stays in Sport mode. It's weird but it definitely came from the exhaust.

The DSG "fart" is the ECU retarding the timing and stopping fuel delivery to drop the RPM's faster to meet the next gear's rotating speed better.

It's a good thing.

**Edit: Sorry, it seems the forum had gone back to "Linear Mode" and was displaying the conversation backwards... I see now that you think it was an isolated backfire event...
