Default Learning to care for an A5

Hi everyone. I have a question for the people that do maintenance on their cars themselves. Where did you learn to maintain the car? Are there any books/resources for help on maintaining the car? I'm a student but not for mechanical engineering. I've always been curious about cars and wanted to learn how to do my own maintenance on them.

I'm looking mainly for resources on changing timing belts, LEDs, brakes, oil changes, etc. Thanks.

Hello, and welcome aboard. I'd suggest checking the Bentley website to see if they have the manual for the car. I'd also purchase the VCDS cable from Ross Tech. Those are two critical pieces to have.

I'm going to suggest having someone look over your shoulder until you know your way around the vehicle.

You can find the printed maintenance schedule on the Audi USA website. That will outline the tasks and when they're due.

Getting ripped off by mechanics or service advisors teaches you quickly to learn and do the basics. Start with easier things, build confidence, and you'll be doing brake jobs and all sorts of routine maintenance and saving a good piece of change.

Here is a website, I find quite good:

It looks like a repair manual for Audi can be very expensive. If you have a model before 2010, you can get one for ~$100. For the newer models you would need to purchase the e-bahn product for ~$1200, and then get yearly updates. Probably best to join a local Audi club and ask for help from its members. I learned how to perform basic maintenance when I was 16 years old. This progressed over the years to brake jobs, valve jobs, etc. I am now 75 and have better things to do with my time, although I do own a vag-com.
