Default Headlights problem after getting into water.

Hey!

I have Audi A5 2010 Premium Plus

Recetly I've got into fludded road and my lights stopped working (besides the engine, which I've already fixed). I'm trying to find out which control modules control main lights and which ones could go bad.. There was moisture and some water (very little) in one of the lights and barrely any moisture in the second, but both went off now. So I assume, that it might be module outside the actual headlights. Maybe anyone knows what can go bad of water damage like this?

Thank you!

Have you checked for codes?

Computer shows no codes. I'm starting to assume that it could be both of the ballasts, since they are on the bottom of the headlight.

I found
on youtube where guy is changing his ballast, which appeated to be water damaged from moisture from inside the headlight.

here is the link.

I ordered 2 ballasts here, they claim they are new, but will have some scratches.. Maybe someone knows where they get them and how they can be never used?

Thanks!

Those ebay ballasts "look" like the real thing. I focused on the 35W and the 42V aspect which is specific to the D3S bixenon power requirements.
BTW, thank you for that video. I'll be changing out my AFS-1 (US Spec) pre-facelift bixenon headlights for AFS-1 Ecode (Euro Spec) bixenon headlights soon and this video will come in handy.

No problem! I'm glad someone found this thread useful!

I replaced the ballasts and my lights are working now. Both had water damage.

The only thing headlights range control stopped working.. Can ballast somehow control it as well?

The ballast doesn't play a part in the range control feature. If you were indeed in water deep enough to short out your ballasts, then it's quite likely the electronic control servo for the range control (auto levelling) may have been compromised as well. I'm not sure if there's an actual test for that other then the self test that is done automatically every time you start the car.

Have you checked to see if there are any codes for the range control?

I don't think I had messages about it, until in one of the shops they accidentally disconnected one of the self leveling motors.. I popped it back when I changed the ballast, but it did not came back to life.. Everything in headlights is dry now. There was not too much water inside.. And both of them are not working..

I'll double check fuses today..

Looking for an update on your situation. How do you find the brightness now compared to before the water damage?
