03 2.7T Was running fine now won't start
Like the title says.. daily driver for the past 2.5 years, bought at 160km timing belt / water pump done 20k ago. Has 247km on it now. Never had any engine problems.. replaced air springs / suspension, honestly i thought the engine was pretty solid and the tranny would be what killed it..
Makes some noise when trying to start. Turning over but just never catches.. i don't like the noise, included a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuIP...ature=youtu.be
Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

thanks
thanks for the replies..
The amateur mechanic in me told me right away "no compression" .. which is basically what i didn't want to hear someone else confirm.. but yeah i have to agree.
I don't really know how to do a compression test / probably don't have the gear..
Visually looking at the timing belt, it looks fine.. but i don't know how to check the setpoints / where the teeth should line up to etc..
I will note that when i picked up the AR from the mechanic after the timing belt i thought the idle was slightly rough, like i mean very very slightly, but i noticed it. I did mention it and he said it was fine. The guy is my wifes uncle and has been working on this german stuff for 30+ years so i don't want to push it and generally trust his judgement / opinion. Though if this related i basically have to know.. as it's probably going to affect my way forward here..
What do you guys say? Any easy-ish / somewhat inexpensive way to determine the cause of this ?
thanks!

Stupid question but when you crank it, all the belts spin? I keep listening to the video, and it sounds like the starter isn't fully engaging.
You can get a compression test kit cheap. I got one from Harbor Freight, but most auto Parts stores have them. You remove a plug, screw in the fitting, crank the engine, watch the gauge. You should see between 150-160. You may have to get fancy with an adapter, since the plugs are recessed in a tight spot.

yeah i'm 99% sure they do as that's what i was looking for.. battery is low now but i'll go boost it and triple check because i'm almost second guessing myself on it now.. however i know i was like "nope, the starters fine" trying to look for obvious problems..
i just looked up a compression test kit and they are only $30 so i'm going to grab one tomorrow and see if i i can youtube it.. i understand the basic concept but never done it before.. i guess 30$ to tell me for sure if there is compression or not will tell me if it's even worth messing around here anymore or if it's a swap or all she wrote.. mechanic is out of town til end of month unfortunately..

I've had P0741 on the tranny forever so i'm not sure if i even want to bother with a swap.. As i hear that this is pretty much not if but when, that tranny is going to go too.. Though it's been fine for 80k..
