Actually low oil pressure 2001 2.7t
2001 Allroad 2.7t tip
144k miles
Just fixed this thing up, TB water pump valve train seals, and got an icon I couldn't read on my broken IP. Got the IP fixed and it's what I thought; low oil pressure with upper engine noise as well.
When the engine is warmed up with the second of 2 oil changes, Mobil1 with Mobil1 filter, the oil pressure drops enough to get the dripping oil can icon and valve train noise on the pass side. Shut it off wait and restart. No problem till I raise the rpm again.
Going to drop the pan and inspect the pickup, bypass and oil pump. Anyone with good news? I read the "crap stuck in the bypass" post. I'm hoping for that.
No metal in the oil dumps, no lower end knock. What else can I check? Do the oil pumps go bad on these around now?

Bad maintenance!
The previous owner payed for oil he didn't get. No way this was changed at proper intervals AND no way was this good synthetic. Looks like the inside of a barbecue.
On the bright side, I was right. The crap plugged the pickup strainer after a a few miles then fell back down in the pan on shut down, only to be sucked back up next time I drove for a while.
All leaned out now. Don't like the shiny bits in the pan but I've seen way worse on running engines. Should be fine now. Definitely running heavier oil though.

Everything's clean now
The screen was intact. Just a ton of crap on it, looks new now. Whatever that metal came from doesn't seem to miss it yet. Fingers crossed.

Good bit of quality info in this post!
When I read the first thread, im thinking, hmm thats odd, low oil pressure. Pretty rare on todays pump designs. Glad that you provided a thorough write up of what you found and how you fixed it. This will definitely be a helpful thread to someone who might experience the same problem. I kind of want to take my pan off and see what I have floating around.
I've been pricing complete TB kits, and everyone seems to be like 500-600 bucks except ebay. Where did you purchase your kit from?
Thanks, Connor.
