...still waiting. The OP "might" be looking for one for sale right now...not a bargain from a year ago.
Someone looking to save money, but willing to dig deeper (as the OP stated) would be pulling the present compressor to find the problem and let the car do the work of leveling it long enough to unload it ("sell it"...good advice).
Adding an outside source of air pressure is a terrible idea (would not sell the car)...expense and over-complication that does NOT address the problem causing the failure....wow.
The OP didn't specify when and exactly where he got 12V near or at the compressor.
Best case scenario, the motor or piston may not be jammed or burned out...the brushes could just be carboned up. I'd pull it, check compressing piston for movement, reassemble and put 12V to it while firmly tapping the motor casing, if not a complete disassemble to check brushes and bearing/bushing....trouble maybe, but no more $$ invested to assure the compressor is not salvageable for even a short time.
